Valley View Ferry
1994-Present: Member, Valley View Ferry Authority
1995-2005: Chairman, Valley View Ferry Authority
2000-Present: Member, Jessamine Co. Ky River Task Force
- Worked with Fayette, Madison and Jessamine County Governments on funding and operation of the Valley View Ferry.
- Worked directly with State Legislators in 1996, after the sinking
of the ferry towboat, to acquire emergency funding of $100,000
for a replacement vessel.
- Designed and oversaw the construction of the new towboat
“The John Craig.”
- Liaison for the Valley View Ferry on all United States Coast
Guard Compliance requirements.
- Responsible for acquisitions, grant compliance and
administration of four Federal grants totaling more than
$600,000 for capital improvement projects, cable safety
system, car barge, Donaldson Park and road improvements to
the ferry landing.
- Lobbied Kentucky State Legislature for the annual funding of $125,000 to subsidize Ferry operation cost and provide free passage to the public.
- Acquired over $1.7 million in State and Federal appropriated
funds and grants during tenure as Valley View Ferry Chairman.
In October 2010 the Valley View Ferry was awarded it's 5th federal grant by the Department of Transportation in the amount $600,000 in Ferryboat Discretionary Funds to build a new towboat.
